SIU Trustees Approve $3.5M in Contracts for SIUE Improvements
The Southern Illinois University Board of Trustees at its regularly scheduled meeting on the Edwardsville campus Thursday, March 24, approved contracts totaling more than $3.5-million for four projects on the Edwardsville campus. The projects include:
- Development of an Edwardsville Campus Dental Clinic for the SIU School of Dental Medicine (SIU SDM)
- Replace damaged brick pavers in the Stratton Quadrangle
- Replace the roof on the Woodland Residence Hall
- Select exterior concrete repairs
The board approved contracts worth $1,383,109 to develop an Edwardsville Campus Dental Clinic in support of the clinical certification course of the SDM’s International Advanced Placement Program. The board approved the budget of $3,017,305 for the capital project on Dec. 10, 2015. The project will be funded by private donations, SDM Clinic Operation, SDM equipment use fees, Parking Services revenues for repairing and resurfacing the parking lot, and University Plant funds.
The contracts to perform the Dental Clinic construction work were awarded to the following Illinois firms:
Work Contractor Value
General Construction: Limbaugh Construction Co., of Granite City $593,247

The Stratton Quadrangle paver replacement contract was awarded to Impact Strategies, Inc., of Fairview Heights at $961,000. Because of wear-and-tear, the bricks are deteriorating and heaving, and need to be removed. The existing pavers will be replaced with a sand base and a permeable brick paver system. The existing seating and large planters will be retained. Construction is expected during summer 2016. The project is funded by the facilities fee.
The board approved the Woodland Hall roof replacement contract to Lakeside Roofing Co., of Collinsville at $698,657. Bel-O Sales & Service, Inc., of Belleville, will handle the ventilation work on a $178,443 contract. The 20-year-old roof is near the end of its life expectancy and warranty time. Work will be done during summer 2016 to minimize disruptions in student housing. The project is funded from SIUE housing repair and replacement reserve funds.
Keller Construction, Inc., of Glen Carbon, earned the $365,987 contract for select exterior concrete repairs. The project will repair concrete stairs for several buildings as well as select areas of pavement and storm water structures in the Edwardsville campus core. University Plant funds will support the project.
The board also gave project and budget approval to the School of Engineering Student Project Design Center (SPDC) at an estimated cost of $4,890,000. The SPDC will be a two-story structure connected to the current Engineering Building. It will provide workshop space for students’ design teams along with additional faculty offices and laboratory space in anticipation of the School’s projected growth. Private donations and University Plant funds will support the project.
